Rough Storage Data

01/09/2022

Following the recent approval for Rough Storage to commence gas storage operations, we wanted to outline where you will be able to find data regarding the site on our Operational Data pages. With supplies from both Terminal and Storage at the physical Rough entry point going forward, there will be multiple data points and this news item has been provided to clarify for these.

·       Storage Injection data will be available in 'Rough, Storage' data items

·       Storage Withdrawal data will be available in 'Rough' data items

·       'Rough-sub' will continue to exist for UK Continental Shelf supplies via the Rough NTS entry point. This will include the gas supplied from the Humber Gathering System in the Southern North Sea

·       The daily storage & LNG report will include Rough Storage when site begins flowing gas

·       All injection data items (including physical flows, nominations, and capacity) are available on our pages now, while some further capacity and nomination data items will be added for withdrawal in early September at a newly created ASEP for Rough Storage:

Entry Long Term Capacity Sold at Auctions Report
Entry Capacity Availability Report (NORD07)
Daily Auctions Summary Report (Within Day)
Future Entry Capacity Traded (NORD03a)
Future Entry Capacity Traded - Capacity (NORD03b)Future Entry Capacity Traded - Transactions (NORD03c)
Within Day Entry Capacity Traded - Capacity (NORD03e)
Within Day Entry Capacity Traded - Transactions (NORD03d)
New data item for "ASEP Aggregate" Nominations at Rough Storage

Whilst End of Day flow data will be separate for Rough Storage and Rough Sub-Terminal, instantaneous flows will be provided at aggregate level in the 'EASINGTON ROUGH ST' item. This is due to both sites joining the NTS at the same physical point. The arrangements for Rough are on a temporary basis, and we will make any changes if required following any decisions on permanent arrangements.

Action required by 1st October 2021 - Gemini Bid Parameter setup (UNC0745S)

03/09/2021

UNC0745S (Mandatory Setting of Auction Bid Parameters) goes live on 1st October 2021. To participate in the short-term auctions listed below, Users are required to set Upper Limits to both Bid Price and Bid Capacity (volume) using the existing Shipper/User Preferences options found in Gemini/Gemini Exit.

Failure to set bid parameters will result in an error message preventing bid capture and submission.

Short-term capacity auctions mandating the use of bid parameters from 1st October 2021*

*IP auctions are not part of this change.

What do I need to do and by when?

By 1st October 2021, Users who participate in short-term GB auctions (listed above) need to ensure bid parameters are in place in Gemini / Gemini Exit for both Price and Capacity (volume) Upper Limits.

Step-by-step guide to setting up bid parameters  – can be found in the September 2020 Ops Forum Pack (slides 60-70).

Screen pack – A detailed technical screen pack outlining all system changes (including simplifying the bid parameters in Shipper/User Preferences screens) can be found  here - UNC0745 - System Screen Pack

Correla on behalf of Xoserve Change Pack - A detailed overview of the system change can be found here.

What happens post-implementation?

From 1st October 2021, if a User attempts to place a bid in any of the short-term auctions listed without having bid parameters in place, an error message will appear at the point of bid submission (bid capture) and auction participation will be prevented until set-up is complete.

It is the responsibility of all Users who participate in short-term auctions to set up bid parameters ahead of UNC0745S implementation. Neither National Grid nor Correla/Xoserve are able to undertake this activity on the behalf of Users.

For further information on this change, please contact capacityauctions@nationalgrid.com, (please start subject with - 'MOD745 query').

MIPI Replacement Go Live

27/07/2020

The Market Information Provision Initiative (MIPI) is the National Grid platform which publishes Gas Market data via the Prevailing View webpage, through daily and monthly reports and API's.

The MIPI Replacement Project is reaching its coclusion, and we are in the final stages of preparation ahead of a planned go-live on Thursday 30th July.

Why we are making this change?

  • There is a need to update the underlying infrastructure and we are taking the opportunity to move to a cloud-based hosting platform which will allow for further growth
  • We are updating the way in which we validate some key data items prior to publishing to the market
  • We are upgrading the monitoring and alerting of both the infrastructure and data so that we can identify issues and work to resolve them quicker than we do today.

Key Benefits

  • A more stable and supported platform which gives us greater scope for changes to the data in the future
  • Ability to add and remove data items more easily, enabling us to react to market needs
  • Better visualisation of the data we publish to the gas market and the ability to respond more quickly to changes requested by our customers
  • Additional validation has been added to some key data items in order to identify and resolve obvious issues prior to publication
  • Monitoring and alerting will enable us to identify any issues as they arise and proactively resolve these.

Implementation Timeline

The project has been ongoing for almost 2 years with the initial phase concentrating on changes to Prevailing View which was redesigned and launched some time ago. We also launched this Gas Operational Data Community Site which enables us to talk directly to the gas data community to understand what you need from NG and inform future development work.

In this current phase, we have concentrated on the data tier below the Data Community Site. This involved a complete rebuild of the way in which we interface with source systems, and how we process and publish that data. This work is due to complete shortly and we will move to the new MIPI platform on Thursday 30th July, subject to operational approval.

What changes do I need to make to continue to receive data from MIPI?

There is no impact to users accessing the API through the API domains:

marketinformation.natgrid.co.uk

energywatch.natgrid.co.uk

As part of cut-over process we will change the internet routing such that requests will be moved from the existing hosted applications to the new applications. MIPI end users do not need to change anything with regard to API's, but after the cut-over they will be using the new applications.

If users access the Report Explorer and Data Item Explorer via the National Grid Website, these links will be change to direct automatically.

Gemini Spring Release

24/03/2020

The purpose of this communication is to provide details of changes to screens accessed by external users that are being delivered as part of the Gemini Spring 2020 Release effective from Gas Day the 5th April 2020.

The release covers three changes:

  • Improvements to the Nominations screen in relation to Single Sided Nominations at the Interconnectors.
  • Improvements to the record lock facility when placing Nominations.
  • Improvements to the nominations process at GB locations in relation to Negative Implied Flow Rates

Improvements to the record lock facility when placing Nominations

Currently, the Gemini system creates a Nomination lock when a user navigates to the update nominations/renomination screen for the selected Gas Day and Service ID level to avoid concurrent updates. This lock will is released by the system on successful completion of nomination/renomination.

But, there are currently scenario's where the users navigate into the update nomination/update renomination screen, however, fails to exit the screen (by Save or Cancel) or closes the browser while in Update nomination/renomination screen. The system created lock is not released and hence prevents the users from placing further nominations/renominations for the same Gas Day and Service ID combination. In such scenario, the shippers currently have to contact GNCC/Application Support help desk to release the lock. Once the lock is released, the users can create or update the nominations/renominations for the selected Gas Day and Service ID.

There is a Gemini system change to release the nomination lock automatically after 60 Minutes. If the user tries to access the locked nomination/renomination through Update nomination/renomination screen or API, the system will display a modified business message in screens and API's.

For example, nomination/renomination lock is created at 10:06 BST/GMT by the user by navigating to Update nomination/renomination screen or by accidentally closing the browser. The lock created at 10:06 BST/GMT will be released after 60 minutes, i.e. at 11:06 BST/GMT .If the user tries to access the screen before the lock is released, the system will alert the user of the 60 minute release and prevent access to the screen.

Improvements to the Nominations screen in relation to Single Sided Nominations at the Interconnectors

The Gemini System does not currently allow a user to have both a Single Sided Nomination (SSN) and a Double Sided Nomination (DSN) for the same date/location combination. Where a user has submitted a SSN that is not then matched by the adjacent TSO the user is unable to amend it or submit a new request for that same combination.

The TSO BBL does not accept SSNs and so if a user incorrectly submits SSN they are then unable to submit a DSN instead.

There is a system change to allow the user to modify the nomination type from SSN to DSN, for any unconfirmed nominations through the EU Nominations screen. However, the system does not allow the user to modify the nomination type from DSN to SSN or have both SSN and DSN for the same date-location-external TSO EIC combination. On save, the system will prompt the user of the changes before confirming the nominations.

Negative Implied Flow Rates

Shippers are unable to process renominations where there is a breach of the 1/24th rule, current arrangements dictate that the shipper must send a fax to request a reschedule to National Grid Gas National Control Centre who will manually validate and reschedule. This is time consuming, with many requests received daily from Customers to the National Grid Gas National Control Centre to action. This is prone to error and is only actioned on a current best endeavour's basis. Customers are requesting this change from recent workshops that have been held for Gemini Enhancement Project to allow them more flexibility in managing the process.

There is a system change to accept negative implied flow rates (via online screen / API) with new business message indicating that they will be processed by National Grid. The new screen will display the status of the negative implied flow rate nominations to the users.

GEMINI Clock Change

20/03/2020

The Gemini Clock change from Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) to British Summer Time (BST) will be carried out on Sunday 29th March 2020.

The Gemini system will not change to BST until 02:00 GMT (03:00 BST) on Sunday 29th March 2020, when the normal housekeeping slot will commence.

Please be aware that the system clocks will remain in GMT until 02:00 when they close for housekeeping. The systems will then return at the times given in the timetable below:

Gemini Timetable (system times):

Start of outage:           Sunday 29/03/2020 at 02:00 GMT (03:00 BST)

End of outage:             Sunday 29/03/2020 to 05:00 BST

Duration:                     Net outage - 2 elapsed hours (normal housekeeping slot)

Shippers

All EU Nominations for gas day 29/03/2020 will need to be placed and confirmed within both the Gemini and TSO systems by 00:59 GMT on Sunday 29th March 2020 to be included in the end of day totals.

TSO's

The impact to the EU Nominations process is that the last DELORD file to be sent to the TSOs from Gemini will be at 01:03 GMT.

GEMINI Spring Release

11/03/2020

The purpose of this communication is to provide details of changes to screens accessed by external users that are being delivered as part of the Gemini Spring 2020 Release effective from Gas Day the 22nd March 2020.

The release covers three changes:

GEMINI Re-Platforming Project & External Connectivity Testing

24/02/2020

This update is to ensure you are aware of the Gemini Re-Platforming project planned to go live on 5th July 2020 and the associated opportunity to take part in External Connectivity Testing planned for 13th April - 8th May.

The Gemini Re-Platforming project is replacing ageing infrastructure and Gemini will be moved to a new cloud based solution, with existing Gemini functionality replicated in the new design.

There are some external impacts although the Gemini application itself is not being affected.

The impacts to External Gemini Users

External Connectivity Testing - all users are encouraged to partake in testing connectivity to the new Xoserve Data Centre during the period 13th April to 8th May 2020.  Please contact box.xoserve.geminire-platform@xoserve.com by the 29th February 2020 if you wish to participate.  Thank you to all who have already been in touch.

Functionality - the Gemini functionality will remain the same as it is now.  There will be an improvement to screen resolution which will adjust to match the device being used for log in.  This will negate the need to manually change the screen resolution.

Access to Gemini - the Citrix Receiver client being used by the industry to access Gemini is being upgraded from V6.5 to V7.15.  It will be necessary for Gemini users to update their Citrix version or access Gemini via a web browser instead.

Extended Outage - Sunday 5th July 2020 - the extended outage window is estimated to be between 8 to 12 hours made up from:

·         Gemini Maintenance Window: 03.00 to 05.00

·         Extended outage: 05.00 to 13.00

·         In the event of a rollback an additional outage will be required from 13.00 to 17.00

Implementation planning is currently underway.  Any actions required from external users to complete their system related activities and processes prior to the implementation day will be communicated nearer the time.

Please find enclosed a link to a Gemini Re-Platforming Leaflet should you wish to distribute it around your colleagues.

Please email here if you have any queries or concerns

Message from BEIS: Freeports/Borders Announcement

13/02/2020

Please see the message below regarding announcement by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster regarding import controls as well as the launch of a consultation by the Treasury regarding free ports. This comes in addition to the earlier consultation launch by the Department for International Trade on 'The UK Global Tariff'. Please get in touch with Justin Goonesinghe at BEIS for any questions (Justin.Goonesinghe@beis.gov.uk).

Import Controls

The government has confirmed plans to introduce import controls on EU goods at the border after the transition period ends on 31 December 2020.

In a speech by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster at a Border Delivery Group stakeholder event, he confirmed all UK exports and imports will be treated equally. This will mean traders in the EU and GB will have to submit customs declarations and be liable to goods' checks. He also confirmed that the policy easements put in place for a potential no deal exit will not be reintroduced as businesses have time to prepare.

There are a number of reasons for implementing import controls:

  • to keep our borders safe and secure so we know who's coming in and how often, what they are bringing in, and why
  • to ensure we treat all partners equally as we begin to negotiate our own trading arrangements with countries around the world
  • to collect the right customs, VAT and excise duties
  • the EU has said it will enforce checks on our goods entering the Eurozone. We will likewise enforce our own rules for goods entering the UK
  • Business can prepare for border controls by making sure they have an Economic Operator Registration and Identification (EORI) number, and also looking into how they want to make declarations such as using a customs agent. We will ensure facilitations currently available to rest of the world traders will also be open to those trading between GB and EU.

This is aimed at GB/EU traders. This approach does not apply to the flow of trade between Northern Ireland and Ireland, or between Northern Ireland and GB.

HMRC extended the deadline for businesses to apply for customs support funding to 31 January 2021. To date, applications have been made for around £18.5 million out of a possible £26 million – meaning there is at least £7.5 million left to claim from HMRC.

Freeports

The government is working to boost economic activity across the UK, ensuring that towns, cities and regions across the country can begin to benefit from the opportunities of leaving the EU. As part of this work, the government aims to create up to 10 freeports in locations across the UK.

The government wants to establish freeports, which have different customs rules than the rest of the country, that are innovative hubs, boost global trade, attract inward investment and increase productivity. In doing so, the government wants freeports to generate employment opportunities to the benefit of some of our most deprived communities around the UK.

The government has the following objectives for UK freeports:

  • establish freeports as national hubs for global trade and investment across the UK
  • promote regeneration and job creation
  • create hotbeds for innovation

The government has drawn on evidence from successful freeports around the world to develop a UK freeport model. The proposed model includes tariff flexibility, customs facilitations and tax measures. We are also considering planning reforms, additional targeted funding for infrastructure improvements and measures to incentivise innovation.

To support this work, we are running a formal consultation to understand your thoughts on the UK's plans for freeports. We aim to feed your views into the policy development process. The consultation will close 11:59pm on 20 April 2020.

For any further queries on guidance or accessibility, please email freeports@trade.gov.uk

GB EU Charging Project - Go Live Successful

10 September 2019

Further to our recent updates about the GB EU Charging Project (GBEUC) Go Live on Sunday 8th September we are pleased to confirm that the implementation was successful and all impacted systems are live.

Please find below a reminder of the changes:

Modifications/Change Variations driving the 8th September 2019 Go Live

The external impacts resulting from the systems change are low.  The following mods and/or Change Variations are driving the changes:

611 – Amendments to the firm capacity payable price at Interconnector Points

Due to the EU Network Code CAM Incremental requirements Gemini will be able to accommodate the Reserve and Premium Prices for IP PARCA.

597 - Rules for the Release of Incremental Capacity at Interconnector Points

Due to the EU Network Code CAM Incremental requirements Gemini and related downstream systems have to be compliant with the Interconnector Point (IP) Planning and Advanced Reservation of Capacity Agreement (PARCA) process.  In the event that a customer raises an IP PARCA they may wish to book IP Capacity.  Gemini will be able to accommodate bookings for IP PARCA Capacity at Moffat and Bacton.  This means that there are a couple of additional fields in Gemini and also a slight modification to a report in MIPI titled 'Entry Long Term Capacity Sold At Auctions Report'.

Gemini Live Capacity versus Nominations Report

Provision of a new Live Capacity versus Nominations Report for a shipper and location combination on a gas day or day ahead basis.

Gemini Day Ahead and Within Day Auctions automated for GNCC

This is an internal process but requires National Grid to reconfigure the date parameters for the Entry Day Ahead (DADSEC) and Within Day (WDDSEC) Methods of Sales to make use of new Gemini system code. This is a one off activity that may impact your API configuration.

A communication was sent to the shipper community on the 23rd July with the information below but is included here as a reminder:

The current date parameters for these two auctions are;
Start date 01/04/2019
End date 31/03/2020

We are proposing a one off change;
Start date 01/04/2019
End date 30/09/2019
Start date 01/10/2019
End date 31/03/2020

We will make the change on Monday 9th September, any API automation you have may need to be revised with these amended dates and references to avoid file transfers failing from this date.

With effect from 01/10/2019 the new WDDSEC method of sale reference will be;
WDDSEC01OCT201931MAR20200688

With effect from 01/10/2019 the new DADSEC method of sale reference will be;
DADSEC01OCT201931MAR20200689

This change does not impact any other daily auctions only the DADSEC and WDDSEC.

Price & Trade Data - 21/08/2019

Over the last few months we have trialled the provision of National Grid Balancing trades by price, quantity and hour bar. This has been provided after the day via a manual spreadsheet upload.

From today we have implemented this as an enduring solution, available both in data item explorer and via our APIs. Historic data will not be added to these sources, although the trial data in supplementary reports will remain online.

You can access this data via Balancing Actions in Data Item Explorer (alongside the existing 6 hour grouping of balancing actions). Data is available for NBP Title, NBP Physical and Locational. The hourly data item titles end with D0 Hourly, Buy or Sell.

http://mip-prod-web.azurewebsites.net/DataItemExplorer/Index

The API data item list has also been updated with the 64 new items:

https://www.nationalgridgas.com/document/128181/download

Please note that this does not impact on any existing APIs as the 6 hour grouped data is still published and has not been renamed. The new data is available alongside this.

The hourly data has not been added into the Daily Operation Information Report (NORD01c). However, a few additional changes have been made to this report:

·         'Price' replaced with 'Cost' for all locations under the Balancing Summary Table

·         'NBP Title' row placed at top of table

·         Milford Haven location added to report

·         Note added to refer to Data Item explorer for the hourly breakdown

Update on Data Enhancements Project and changes to Prevailing View - 15/08/2019

The data enhancements project and data community platform was set up to facilitate discussion on what operational data and transparency of NG decisions could be provided to drive efficiencies in the market.  Any feedback we have received has been discussed and validated to understand the value drivers associated with particular focus being a desire to make changes to promote efficiencies to the end consumer.

During this initial project we have reviewed the relevance of the data that we provide to you, understood what new data items are important to you, and improve the user experience when accessing data through Prevailing View, Report Explorer and Data Item Explorer.

In addition the project is delivering a refresh of the underlying technology which supports this, to improve performance, allow for future growth and ensure that we can be more responsive to your future data needs.

To ensure our reach is across all stakeholder groups we launched this Data Community website, which has been useful in facilitating discussion on what data is most important to you and reaching out to new and more varied stakeholders across our industry.   We would like to thank everyone that has taken the time to feed back to date either through this data community website or within group or 121 discussions with National Grid.

As a result of your feedback we have recently introduced, or will shortly make available the following new data:

  • Instantaneous Demand Data
  • Price and Trade Hourly Data
  • An alignment of Supply & Demand Date/Time Horizons

In addition the user experience particularly through the current Prevailing View screen is being redesigned to make the data more relevant and easier to understand. We are keen to consult with you on this, and will be providing some proposed designs over the next few weeks to gain your input.

We welcome any feedback that you may have, and we are keen to engage with you on the redesign. For further information please contact the Project Manager, Tony Watts at tony.watts@nationalgrid.com

Instantaneous Demand Data - Live

The Instantaneous Demand data has now gone live following a successful trial.

This is updated at the same intervals as supply data. Demand has been broken down into the following 5 categories and will be published every 12 minutes, with 2 minute intervals:

  • LDZ Offtake Flow
  • Power Station Demand Flow
  • Storage Demand Flow
  • Industrial Demand Flow
  • Interconnector Export Demand Flow

In addition to this there will be a data item showing the total Demand.

To test this data, we are initially providing temporary URLs. These will mirror the existing Instantaneous Flows into the NTS and API links, but with the additional Demand data added. Please note that the existing links have not been edited in any way. Once we have confirmed that this data is working with no issues, it will be combined into the existing site. Please provide any feedback on this data by COP on Friday 7th June- there is a thread for this on the community discussion board.

APIs:

Why is this change being implemented?
Through engagement at recent Operational Forums, Data Enhancement working groups, and our online community platform, improved Demand data has been identified as the number one priority by Industry as we make enhancements to our Operational Data. We've heard that providing this data on an instantaneous level would give a more complete data set when combined with Instantaneous Flows into the NTS.

This change has been fast-tracked so that the benefit to the industry can be realised before other changes to our data pages are implemented.
